If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. Matthew 18: 17
She has to be stoned as per Mosses law. We can never see Jesus write anything in Bible stories, but only once. And we never know what he wrote. Strange, isn’t it? He did it before a crowd and a dreaded girl, when the mob caught her in adultery. I think Jesus wrote only one word, ‘ mercy’. Every religion teaches mercy.
It is not that much easy to forgive if someone steal your life itself, or may be your childhood. Others distracting acts may have very different dimensions for you. Stealing the coat cannot be taken by its mere meaning. Luke 6:29. Coat is your individuality, your personality. The lose will be huge.
Stealing your time also too heavy. Living together for many years and understanding that all these time is for nothing is really heavy, hard to forgive.
In a macro sense the meaning becomes more clear and wide. Why we are ashamed of our body, for example? Why we cant forgive to our self? How much we bothered of our appearance and health..! The process of forgiveness start from the very morning, from the very beginning of the day.
As an extension to Jesus advice to the rich young man, to sell all you own, requires some mercy to our environment. To kill ego we need to shut ourselves in rooms for hours. Definitely wee need to lean to get through eye of a needle. To show just in matters relate nothing to us also may be very difficult. Judas Iscariot was really annoyed when the Mary anointed Jesus. Why wasn’t this fragrant oil sold for 300 denarii and given to the poor? John 12: 5. He cant forgive something which doesn’t cost him a denarii. When we place ourselves on the throne of just it is difficult to show mercy.
The advice don’t kill your brother is an old wine in old wineskin. New law is very thin. But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell. Matthew 5:22. We need to love our neighbour than the sinners do. If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. If you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners in order to receive back the same amount. Luke 6:32-43. Kingdom of Heaven is subject to violence. We need to be stronger. Matthew 11:22.
When Jesus asked to consider those ones who doesn’t listen to church as tax collectors and Gentile, obviously, he is not asking to hate them. Instead as Jesus loved these sinful people of his time, as Jesus kept them with him all the time, as Jesus dined with him we have to love them, we have to keep them with us all the time. As a Hound of Heaven( poem by Francis Thompson) we have to chase them. The first question and answer about my brother is meaningful: Then the LORD said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” “I don’t know,” he replied. “Am I my brother’s keeper?” Genesis 4:9.
It is easy to say that we believe in Jesus’ resurrection. It is easy to trust a God who wins over his enemies. But we need more courage to believe a Jesus who is naked, intimidated, helpless and hanging on a cross. Remember Jesus won only once in his life, at the end on the cross. Even now we are defeating his sacred heart. Don’t think that Christian life is a highway to cruise in comfort.
